Good Goal from Agger

Just when I thought Liverpool was going into the half trailing by 1 - 0 to WHU, a thunderous strike from Daniel Agger put us even!! Minutes later, Crouch put us ahead. 2 - 1.

Great for Liverpool to notch up the first win of the season, 3 points. Merseyside derby against the Everton this weekend, then an away game to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. A string of tough fixtures for Liverpool.

Fowler Scores the Penalty to salvage a point for Pool

Sheffield Utd did very well for their top flight debut against Liverpool in the EPL season opening match. They weren't over-rawed by the atmosphere & did their job well. I thought they were the better side in the first half.

The starting line-up by Rafael Benitez baffled me, why was Crouch & Finnan on the bench instead of in the starting line-up? We could have had more options upfront with Bellamy & Crouch. Besides, Crouch should be on a high after scoring 2 goals in the England international friendly. Maybe Benitez wanted to rest Crouch for the CL game next week.

Fowler looked jaded & tired during the game, was expecting more from him though. He missed a few good chances in front of goal. Fabio Aurelio seems to have fitted very well with the rest of the team; the only blemish of his good performance was his lapse on concentration - resulting in the goal from Hulse early in the 2nd half.

Riise & Carra were both substituted early in the first half due to ankle injuries. Both are doubtful for the return leg in Kiev for the CL qualifier against Haifa. Let's just hope they recover in time for the away game at Chelsea 3 weeks from now.

Not the best start to the new season, a controversial penalty to salvage a point against the newly-promoted side. We can & will do better!!!!!

Carra & Gerrard lifts The Shield

Liverpool won, the better team outdone the team with the monies - Chelsea!!

No matter what Jose Mourinho says about Liverpool's not being a threat to his multi-billion squad, fact remains. We have beaten them time and again & collected the silverware. That worm claimed that the team is physically not ready?? What's an EPL team when you are not ready for the toughest league beginning in 6 days' time??

Liverpool's new trial line-up looks good. Without Hyypia, Gerrard, Alonso & Bellamy in the 1st half; the squad looked solid with Momo Sissoko, Carra, Agger, Riise, Pennant, Garcia & Crouch in charge. We played a good game, stuck to our guns. Chelsea, on the other hand, looked lacklustre. No brillance from Terry, Lampard, Robben & gang. They must be missing Claude & Joe Cole. Ballack had to limp off the field early, due to an injury too.

The win certainly boosted our confidence, with the upcoming league game against Sheffield United & the return leg tie with Haifa for the Champions League (which would be played in Kiev).

I have to blog about the win notched up by Liverpool for the CL qualifers.

I know I haven't been writing, that's because work was darn hell these days, with the integration & all, i spent my National Day in the dirty & stuffy whse searching for cargo bound for exportation. My weekends were burnt too.

Nonetheless, EPL is returning next weekend!! I can't wait....the Community Shield is next, in another 50 mins!!!

The win kept Pool in sight of ManUSA in second place. They just have to keep winning & hope ManUSA slip up in the last few remaining games this season. We can still finish SECOND.

Cisse & Fowler Scores to keep Pool on course

Liverpool continued with their winning ways in the League & kept the pressure on ManUSA. WE WANT TO FINISH 2ND IN THE LEAGUE!!

Fowler & Cisse both netted a goal each in the 1st half to secure the victory against WBA at The Hawthorns. We just have to keep winning & hope for ManUSA to slip up/drop points for their remaining games.

With Chelsea dropping points against Birmingham & ManUSA winning the 3 points against Bolton, the Barclay Premiership League Champions' spot doesn't seem guaranteed for Chelsea anymore !

Liverpool celebrates the 2nd goal

Liverpool takes on Everton this evening at Anfield. With their current form & scoring abilities, it's hard not to get carried away & be over-confident about the match.

However, Pool must be wary of Everton's recent form. They too are on a roll, since starting the beginning of the League poorly. They seems to have found their footing, Everton lies 9th in the League now, looking for a spot in UEFA Cup next season.

Nonetheless, I'm very confident that Pool can come out victorious from the derby & possibly score a couple of goals.

Gerrard SENT OFF

I was right, we scored a couple of goals; with Phil Neville adding one for us. I was shocked, sitting in front of the tv, watching the game, 2 yellow cards for Gerrard & a red card for the skipper in the 18th min. I thought we were doomed to lose this one, having lost Gerrard this early through 2 silly mistakes.

Liverpool had to continue with almost 70 mins of football with 10 men & having to only play with one man (read : Crouch) upfront. Everton had the better chances in the 1st half & looked like scoring anytime soon. But the superb corner kick from Alonso gave Pool a lifeline, with Phil Neville heading the cross into his own net. 1 - 0 to Liverpool just before half-time.

Luis Garcia scored a second 2 mins after the break with a clever lob. Crouch flicked the ball into Garcia's path and the latter makes no mistake with a chip over Wright. It was simply amazing, I thought the Neville's OG was lucky, but scoring a second this early in the 2nd half, I was by then flabbergasted & looking for more. Tim Cahill gave Everton hope in the 61st min with a well-taken goal, resulting from a corner kick. Liverpool had to start defending from set pieces, the goals we let in through these set pieces are killing us & could come back to haunt us. Kewell worked his magic 6 mins from time with a stunning strike from his left leg, into the top corner from 25 yards. The match was done & settled.

The derby produced a total of 11 bookings and 2 sent-offs (Andy Van der Meyde was sent off for elbowing Alonso in the face in the 73rd min). It was a pulsating match from start to finish. In the end, Liverpool had the upper over their neighbours as Everton failed to capitalise on the extra man advantage they had over Pool.

I figured Steven Gerrard must be the most relieved man at Anfield yesterday afternoon.

We scored 15 goals in 3 games, strictly only 13 goals, because we had 2 own goals scored for us by our opposition. That's some incredible stats.

I didn't catch the game as it was shown at 0400hrs this morning, can't wake my lazy bones. I'm gonna try to catch the repeat this evening.


Momo Sissoko Returns!

More significantly, Momo returns to top flight football last night with an appearance against Birmingham. What an amazing recovery Momo had, since suffering from the serious injury to his right eye. In exactly a month's time, Momo has returned to playing again.

Bring on the blueshite (read : Everton), let's hit them with more!!

Gerrard Dejected over Champions League Exit

Well done to Benfica. That's all I would say.

Trailing 1 -0 from the 1st leg at Lisbon, it was do-or-die at Anfield. Everyone thought Liverpool had the means & confidence to pull this off, me included. It was so so so frustrating to see the team going behind from a superbly taken goal by Simao - the man that Benitez wanted to bring to Anfield. We had numerous chances in front of goal in the first 30 mins, but we didn't convert those. Benfica took their chances & went ahead 9 mins from the 1st half.

Liverpool's defence of the Champion League's trophy has effectively ended. We need to look to the future, we are still in contention for the FA Cup & hopefully finish on top of Man Utd in the League.

Disappointment in Lisbon

I know this entry is late, but I was busy with work for the past week & late nights.

The defeat in Lisbon was difficult to swallow, especially having not lost for a long time in the Champions League tournament. Rafa give Gerrard a break, placing him on the subs bench. That was rather alarming, if you ask me. However, I understood as the game went on, Rafa was looking for a nil-nil draw away from home.

We looked like earning a well-deserved draw, but for Luisao's late header that gave Benfica a vital 1-0 win. We now have to score at least 2 goals at Anfield to progress & have to stop Benfica from scoring at Anfield.

I think we can do that, Anfield is always a difficult place to play at, and Liverpool will have the incredible fans behind them all the way.

Peter Crouch Scores !!

Entertaining match, worked to Liverpool's favour. Sweet sweet victory for Liverpool, having lost to Man Utd earlier in the league this season.

Man Utd never looked threatening in the first 45 mins. Without Rio Ferdinard; the defence was looking very vulnerable. Alex Ferguson had to bring in Vidic & Brown to marshal the defence. It was evident that Pool would score sooner or later, with the kind of pressure they mounted on Man Utd. The midfield trio of Gerrard, Hamman & Sissoko controlled the centre of the field & I want to add that I was impressed with Momo Sissoko, especially. He went all out for every loose ball & his work rate was great. With Liverpool controlling the midfield, it was no surprise that Man Utd wasn't getting many chances at goal.

The goal did come early, in the 19th min; through Peter Crouch!! His header found the back of the net & hysteria broke out amongst the fans. 1 - 0 to Liverpool. Man Utd continued to search for the equaliser, but was not sucessful. Ronaldo, Richardson & Fletcher were largely ineffective in midfield, thus the poor showing by the Man Utd side.


Intense Agony for Smith

Man Utd never looked like getting the equaliser at Anfield, even though Louis Saha was sent on for the ineffective Fletcher. There were some chances at goal, but they never came close. The match was nearing the end, when Liverpool was awarded a free kick. Riise stepped up & sent a powerful volley towards goal. Smith jumped & blocked the shot, but went down the ground; falling awkwardly, with his left leg beneath him. It was only after the match that revealed that he had a dislocated ankle & broken leg.

Rivalry there may be, but no one would want to see any injury that bad happening to anyone. Not forgetting that we have had our shares of despair with what happened to Cisse & Alonso last season. I wish the best for Alan Smith.

Benfica is next, our journey continues, to defending our Champions League trophy this season.

LUIS GARCIIIIIIIIIAAAAAAAAA !!!!!!

Just when I thought we were only going to get a point against the Gunners for our fantastic display at Anfield on Vday, Luis Garcia pounced on a rebound from Didi's volley & made it 1 - 0!! Great work by Didi too, for he made the volley that resulted in the rebound.

We dominated for most parts of the game, I was starting to get frustrated and desperate, why haven't we scored yet? Gerrard missed a penalty in the first half!! Heaps of chances missed by the strikers, what's happening?? I didn't think Rafa had anything else up his sleeves this time, a draw was destined. Then, Didi was brought on to replace Alonso, and Garcia was on for Sissoko. Our efforts paid off, Didi struck a powerful volley towards goal, which Lehmann saved, but he wasn't able to save from the rebound by Luis Garcia. 86th min, 1 - 0 to Liverpool, we are gonna WIN, surely.

The win was an important one, we needed all the confidence we can accumulate before the FA Cup tie against Man Utd. We have had a string of undesirable results in the league earlier, losses against Man Utd, Chelsea and Charlton. 3 points last week against Wigan last week and this win against the Gunners was vital to keep our pace with 2nd-placed Man Utd.

Bring on Man Utd, I'm now pretty confident that we can kick their asses at Anfield!!

Rare Goal for Sami Hyypia

A rare goal from Hyypia kept Liverpool's hopes of catching Man Utd in the 2nd spot on the League table alive.

Liverpool played well in the first half & controlled the game for the first 45 mins. Hamman came in for Sissoko & Dudek continued his stint in goal for the suspended Reina. Fowler partnered Morientes in front of goal and again put up a decent performance.

Having seen the actions in the first 45 mins, I thought we would be able to score another couple of goals against the Wigan lads. But it proved difficult in the 2nd half for Liverpool. We were constantly put under pressure from Wigan & they certainly had better chances in front of goal than Pool did. Paul Jewell had to make do with his choice of limited players, having to play without his choice of strikers & that made it more difficult.

Liverpool were kinda fortunate to walk away from JJB stadium with 3 points, Wigan made it very difficult for Pool in the 2nd half. Benitez had to play it safe by substituting Kromkamp for Fowler with a quarter of the match remaining to safeguard the 3 points. All credit to the lads from Wigan, they have been magnificent all season & I wish them all the luck to kick Man Utd asses in the League Cup Final!!

As for Liverpool, important matches coming up. We play Arsenal in midweek, then Man Utd during the weekend for the FA Cup tournament, then Benfica in the Champions League.

Pool can't afford a slip-up now, come on Liverpool!!
